First, the compensation that must be paid:
OFFER COMPENSATION $773,442 or below None Over $773,442 to $1,171,882 Third-round choice Over $1,171,882 to $2,343,765 Second-round choice Over $2,343,765 to $3,515,647 First-round and third-round choice Over $3,515,647 to $4,687,530 First-round, second-round and third-round choice Over $4,687,530 to $5,859,412 Two first-round choices, one second- and one third-round choice. Over $5,859,412 Four first-round choices
If you offer a contract for any year with one of those salaries, you will have to pay the compensation price to that player's original team should they choose not to accept the offer sheet. If they do choose to accept and retain the rights of that player, that player will earn the salary offered for the amount of years offered on the offer sheet.
You can only offer RFAs who are listed on a teams roster after July 1st.
Sometimes the compensation price may be more then that player's worth is, and you should think it over first. If one of you're players has been offered an offer sheet from another team, I will notify them and they will have the option to accept the offer sheet and retain the rights of the player or decline and receive the compensation picks instead.
